ECF-Funded Programme

Food Saver Programme

Recovering surplus food from markets, supermarkets, and food wholesalers, redistributing edible food to people in need.

The Food Saver Programme is a key initiative funded by the Environment and Conservation Fund since 2018, operating in Kwun Tong, Kowloon, and Northwest New Territories. The programme recovers edible surplus food from wet markets, supermarkets, and food wholesalers, sorts and processes it, then redistributes it to people in need — including underprivileged families, elderly, and the homeless.

As of 2025, the programme has recovered hundreds of tonnes of food, benefiting tens of thousands of people. Every bag of vegetables, every box of fruit, is a practice of "cherishing food is a blessing."
